"Thanks for the welcome back, I suspended it for a while because we were so busy with the housesits we had that we didn't want to be tempted to stretch ourselves too far.

We recently sat for Trish J at Lake Macquarie for six weeks and thoroughly enjoyed not only the area but two adorable dogs that we simply hated to leave. Now we're at Albury NSW housesitting for 7 weeks for Gill D, their two dogs and a cat and enjoying that also.

We will be going back to Bribie Island to sit for 3 months and at the end of that we hope there will be a unit in a retirement village for us (on Bribie Island).

We intend to keep on housesitting even when we have our own place on Bribie as it's a wonderful way to see the country.

Hope you had a great Christmas and we hope 2009 brings you health and happiness.

Dan & Rosie- so much personal satisfaction that we want to just keep on with house and pet sitting

Our membership runs out early next month and we want to continue to receive notifications from home and pet owners wanting our services.

Our sitting engagements this year have been in Northern NSW (Goolmangar, Lismore 11 weeks; Crystal Creek, Tweed Valley 5 weeks; North Arm, Murwillumbah 5 weeks; Wardrop Valley, also on Tweed for 7 weeks and currently at Mt Buffalo in the Victorian Alps until Jan 1.

We have made friends with a Blue Heeler, Fox Terrier, 2 Golden Retrievers, Border Collie, Maltese / Shi Tzu and one aloof Chinchilla cat over the last few months. Having fed over 100 native birds for 5 weeks, supervised the births of 3 calves and fed 5 more along with attending the rest of two herds of cattle for 5 and 7 weeks respectively, we have gained so much personal satisfaction that we want to just keep on with house and pet sitting.

Please send a renewal application and I can PayPal by return - we are IN with HouseCarers.com permanently!

Insights from Flexible HouseSitter Rosabel: sees places:- "I really wanted to go to"

Hi, just letting you know that I have had two housesits so far which turned out to be a happy result for me, and I think for the pet owners.

Both times I went at short notice, but they were places I really wanted to go to; I think if you put in the effort, everything works out for both parties, and I never change the routine for the pets.

They settle down and after a few days I can come and go, sightseeing or whatever, but always return in time to feed/walk the pets. I leave everything as close as possible to the way I found it and this way both parties are happy.

Thanks, Rosabel

Hi Rosabel

"thanks very much for the feedback and insights. Where were the housesits?"
... Ian

Hi Ian ,

"The first one was in Auckland NZ for six weeks in Dec/Jan while the owners went to Europe, and the second one, just recently in Hobart, Tasmania.

Both times the sitter they had lined up was unavailable, and as I live on my own, I can go on short notice most of the time. When the owners come back and I leave the housesit, I have had extra time in NZ and Tas before I come back home, so it really works out well for me.

I would like to thank all the lovely people who contacted us regarding our sit even though most were unable to help at such short notice.

We are in awe of the multitude of caring wanderers who have made Housesitting a way of life and who add so much value to those who use their services.

As my father became ill recently we were left without a sitter so we thank all the wonderful sitters who took the time to respond and I apologise I have not got back to all of you.

Please accept this as a personal thankyou and I sincerely hope we get to meet at some stage in the future.
Kindest regards,

House sit details:
Jimboomba Brisbane Logan City QLD

We would love a mature experienced couple to mind our resort style acreage property, 2 cats and 11mth old toy poodle while we are away for 4 weeks from 14th October.

We are on 5 acres in Jimboomba and just 2 minutes to the township with supermarkets, cafes, takeaways, library, chemists, etc. 3 acres of our property is just an empty back paddock which requires vitually no maintenance and the remaining 2 acres consists of a 4 bedroom scandanavian designed home (lot's of glass) and home office, 4 bathrooms, inground pool, sauna, gym, dam and pretty gardens which are fairly low maintenance except for the rose garden which actually requires a little work at the moment so garden lovers would be most welcome here.

If you are a handyman that would be great too as there are a few little jobs that we haven't had time to get to yet. Our baby (poodle) doesn't really require walking as he gets a lot of excercise running around the yard but he loves to play fetch and really enjoys outings in the car but this is not necessary if you don't like the idea. He is used to staying home by himself when we're at work. If you think this position might suit please contact us with your details and experience. We'd love to meet you

Seven weeks in a beautiful part of Mexico even in the low season was wonderful! I commend the house owners, Roger and Summer for their hospitality.

I was able to finish a book while there as well as see many of the nearby sights.

I also salute this site for providing this venue for people such as I who want to experience a culture not just observe.

I indeed experienced the small village of Sayulita, inter reacting with local people and seeing all through their eyes.

3 month Housesit Canberra ACT Australia

We are seeking a house sitter/s who will be prepared to occupy our home during our three month absence.

The home comes with a cat which likes company and regular feeding (breakfast and dinner).

The bedrooms comprise two queen size and one with twin singles. The fourth bedroom is set up as a study with ADSL available for use if you have a computer. The main bedroon has an ensuite and the bathroom has a spa bath. The house has ducted gas heating and ducted evaporative cooling. Window locks, deadlocks and security doors are installed.

We are trying to complete easy care landscaping so that lawncare and gardencare will be minimal. Our driveway is very narrow and requires good reversing skills. At the front of the house there is a boat bay in which a car can be parked (off the street).

There are bus stops at the end of the street with regular services to Woden and Tuggeranong. We are seeking a housesitter/s who will care for and enjoy the comfort of our home for three months and who will also give a lot of time, care and affection to the cat who owns the house and us.

At present we are housesitting in Nelson and then have another one in Christchurch in May. We are then housesitting in Marlborough for 6 weeks. It has given us the opportunity to meet some great people who we conti nue to keep in touch with and to see areas of our country we haven't seen before.

We now hope to be able to obtain housesits in Europe again later this year and into the next. We will definitely rejoin when our subscription expires.Thank you for a great service,we have recommended it to many of our friends who are envious of us doing these housesits. Regards Ed and Julie

We recently had phillyqualified sit for us for two weeks, looking after our rural home, 1 cat and 12 chooks. He kept in touch before we actually met (some 6 months approx with phone calls) and then came and visited us twice before coming to do the "sit". We were impressed with his friendliness and honesty and our home was very well looked after, our animals well cared for and he even weeded our vegetable patch! He kept in text contact whilst we were away which was reassuring.

We can definitely recommend him to others and hope he will be able to come and sit for us next time we go away.

Our experience is almost identical to the experience that muscrat had - see Housesitting Blog for Recent Updates > Archives>April 2007.

What Better Arrangement for All Involved but Humble House Sitting?

Graphic Designer and full time housesitter - Lesley Huntley has written some excellent first hand articles on housesitting.

Here is an excerpt:

If you are one of the many home owners that has been the victim of burglary, or you are the owner of a pet with special needs (aren’t they all), or you simply worry what will happen to your home and/or pet in your absence, you know what it is like to be unable to completely relax and enjoy your hard earned holiday.

You may have arrived home to the aftermath of irresponsible relatives who were supposed to be taking care of your home in your absence and haven’t quite lived up to their end of the bargain. You could have forked out hundreds, if not thousands for pet boarding only to be unable to stop worrying about how they are the whole time, or for them to come back different pets, perhaps even with ticks or fleas (or worse).

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Thank you very much for a great idea, a well done website and for the usefulness of your service. Keep up the good work."

Housesit Auckland New Zeland:

Please note this is primarily for the dog sitting and not so much for the house sitting aspect. So this arrangement will only appeal to you if you are a true dog lover and are active and able to walk and play with our two dogs.

It would also be preferable if you were home most of the day. Our two dogs are whippets. They are medium sized who are very friendly, gentle, non aggressive and easy going. They are great company. But they are rather spoilt and very much indoor dogs who like their creature comforts, though they do also like their walks. They require daily exercise - usually a short walk in the morning and a long walk in the evening.

You must be clean living, non smoking and 100% reliable and MUST want to do this for our animals as the number one priority. You will need to take special care of our two dogs, take them for daily walks and give them plenty of attention.

Our house is a nice, comfortable bungalow in the Epsom/Royal Oak area with all mod cons. We have a pleasant, large, fenced and secure garden. We are close to an easy bus route into the city centre and about 20 minutes walk to Greenlane Clinical Centre. If you are interested or want to know more information please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

I recently advertised on your web stie for a housesitter for the dec/jan, I got an immediate response .

I met Jan (ResponsiblePlus) for coffee and got to know a little more about each other , decided it would be a good deal for both of us .

Jan took me to the airport the day I left, she kept in touch with me while I was overseas, looked after my two cats and home. It was a great comfort to know my pets where being looked after at home and were in such good hands.

My apartment looked lovely , fresh fruit, flowers and was very clean, Thank you Jan for a marvellous job , I am very grateful to you. I would recommend you to anyone who req'd a very reliable housesitter.

Good luck with any further jobs I would be delighted to have you housesit for me again .Thank you to housesitters, I look forward to using your services again

So far I have been successful in arranging three housesits through the website. One in Ottawa south, one in Milton, and one in St. Adele, Quebec. I am presently negotiating for one in Toronto. It has worked very well for me, and thanks for providing this excellent service.

For the Ontario housesits I replied to an ad, for the Quebec housesit the homeowner contacting me directly. Eliabeth (Grace100)

Hilton Head Island, SC USA is my winter home for over three months - maryfromtheprairie

"Hilton Head Island, SC is my winter home for over three months solely because of joining Housecarers as a Gold Member.

My husband spotted the ad put in by these wonderful folks and next thing he knew I was asking for his password to his pay pal account so we could become members. That was August 12, 2007 and by mid September, we were 'chosen' in just one week by this charming couple who are travelling on the QE II for 90 days on her last 'Round the World Cruise'. We definitely made a connection!!!

We are from western Canada and they are from southeastern United States and this was the first housesit we officially applied for through Housecarers. References from both the northern and southern hemisphere solidified the agreement.

Thanks Ian for your wonderful service ... maryfromtheprairie

twodogsandme Says - Too Easy!

Hi,
Too easy! In very short time found a lovely lady who is looking forward to staying with my dogs and enjoying my property while I am away.

The only difficulty was making a choice from so many obviously suitable people.

Thanks for the great service! (twodogsandme)

2 months housesit Woodbridge Tasmania (south of Hobart )

I am planning to visit my daughter who is currently living in England – exciting, except that my two mates, Lora ( a Rhodesian Ridgeback X) and Hannah (a Staffy X) can’t come along… so am hoping to find someone to keep them company for May and June, 2008.

Our home is on 15 acres in a beautiful coastal rural region of southern Tasmania with Hobart about a 45 k drive away. There is a general store, Post Office and Petrol Station in Woodbridge which is 4k from house. The house is somewhat unconventional ( straw bale and post & beam construction), has solar power (with good efficient battery charger and generator as back up).

All mod cons and slow combustion wood heating so clean, warm and comfortable living. The main house has only one bedroom and some internal steps. Adjacent is a small cabin which is used as guest room (has own shower & toilet). There is plenty of parking if you travel with a motorhome, caravan, etc.

Sited for the magnificent views and sunshine in a quiet private area, it is a place to relax, walk, enjoy the wildlife and scenery…………...and play with the dogs! I do have a garden (newly established) and you would be welcome to potter about in it but no hard work is necessary or expected. There are some chickens, but they are very low maintenance… just need to top up the feed bin and water as required and collect eggs.

My main concerns are the dogs … they are both very friendly, reasonably well trained (eg: no begging for for food is allowed!) and easy to get along with. They are used to going most places with me ( even prefer to sit in the car for hours rather than stay home). Lora is 11.5 years old and Hannah 10, so relatively mature and don’t need lots of exercise … just pats and company.

They have several ‘aunties and uncles’ in the community who are happy to take them in if you wish to take some short overnight trips. I would also be happy for you to use my car to take dogs for outings to beach, etc. There is a strong sense of community in the district so you would quickly be welcomed by my friends if you wish to socialise with the locals.

I would appreciate hearing only from folk who are prepared to stay the whole period I am away, preferably arriving a little earlier so that I can familiarise you with “the workings”. So, if you feel you would enjoy a holiday here, I look forward to hearing from you. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions.

Hi there,

I wanted to let you know we found a suitable couple to look after our house within a day through your site. Actually, there were several who sounded suitable.

Thanks for providing such a good service. Within a day we had had more than ten responses. It takes the headache out of going away!

Cheers,

Suzanna (Skywards)

Housesitting in UK France and Italy

Just a note to let you know that we think your Forum is wonderful! We have been sitting full time for a year now in UK France and Italy and are on our second year. We have written a book titled "Endless Holidays - A Guide to House and Pet Sitting" which we will self publish in February. We would love to advertise it with you then.

So the Forum is another big plus for Housecarers which has been a very valuable site for us. We are booked out for the next year until we go home to Australia for a break and our daughtert's wedding in November 08.

Many thanks for a wonderful initiative.
Cheers Lynne and Mike ... House sitters edm0nds
